The research is divided into the following aspects: Joseph Schumpeter´s economic thought, the phases of capitalist development, the theory of economic development, and capitalism, socialism and democracy. It was used a documentary methodology of interpretative nature about Schumpeter's ideas around technological change and the role of the entrepreneur as an innovating agent. This research aims to analyze the vision of Joseph Schumpeter in relation to the role of the entrepreneur as innovator in the process of change and economic development.

The contrast between the two theoretical standpoints was predicated on four fundamental variables: 1) systemic character, 2) the nature of technological change, 3) attitude toward the innovative process, and 4) the scope of the explanation revolving around growth and development. Methodologically, the neoclassical and neo-Schumpeterian schools of thought were unified, pursuant to the conventional approach, when it came to technological change, despite their discrepancies nevertheless, in the Marxist concept, Marx's analyses prevailed over those issued by other authors. Abstract This paper delves into the main theories on and approaches to technological change, aiming to demonstrate the currency of Karl Marx's precepts in contemporary discussions. Palabras clave: cambio tecnológico, teorías neoclásicas y neoschumpeterianas, teoría marxista, acumulación capitalista. La contrastación entre ambas perspectivas teóricas se desarrolló sobre la base de cuatro variables fundamentales, a saber: 1) el carácter sis-témico, 2) la naturaleza del cambio tecnológico, 3) la actitud ante el proceso innovador, y 4) el alcance explicativo en torno al crecimiento y el proceso de desarrollo. Metodológicamente, las teorías neoclásicas y neoschumpeteria-nas fueron unificadas, bajo el enfoque convencional, sobre el cambio tecnológico, aun sabiendo las diferencias entre ambas mientras en la concepción marxista, prevalecen los análisis de Marx sobre otros autores. Resumen El presente artículo investiga las principales teorías y enfoques sobre el cambio tecnológico, con el objetivo de demostrar la vigencia de los conceptos de Carlos Marx en discu-siones contemporáneas.
